Lucinda Caroline Branscomb Hunter of Union Springs, Alabama, had four brothers who joined the Confederate Army, and as part of the Third Alabama Infantry Regiment, in 1861, they went to Virginia to defend the South. The brothers wrote home frequently, complaining of not enough mail, inadequate clothing, cold weather, poor food, and problems with officers - all typical complaints of southern soldiers.
